Hoole has consistently been the front runner to be named Best Local Centre in the Great British High Street Awards, but now it has slipped behind with just one week to go before voting ends.

The Parade in Surrey's Claygate has overtaken Hoole which is now in second place in the shortlist, with The Pantiles in Tunbridge Wells bringing up the rear in third place.

Now the popular city suburb needs your support to win.

Linda Hobbs, from community group Notting Hoole which was behind the award entry, said: "At this late stage we can't afford to rest on our laurels.

"Please vote now and for the next seven days; get your family, friends, neighbours and work colleagues to give Hoole a big push to the final."

The awards celebrate the great work being done to revive, adapt and diversify the nation’s high streets.

This year’s competition saw a record 900 entries across all 14 categories, including the new categories for individuals and shops.

High Streets Minister Andrew Percy added: “Over 300,000 votes have been cast in the competition so far, proving that people are passionate about their high streets up and down the country.

“Hoole did fantastically well to make it into the final three, but now every vote counts and they need an extra push to get them title of Britain’s best high street.”

The public vote accounts for 50% of the final decision on who wins, while judges from shopping centre investor Ellandi makes up the other half.

Winners in each category will get a share of a prize pot worth £100,000 and expert training from Google’s digital taskforce for shops, bars and restaurants, as well as a trip to Twitter UK’s London office to boost their social media skills.

Voting ends on November 18 and the winners will be announced at a ceremony on December 12.
