A good Samaritan helped a 'distressed' man who was dangling his legs over Hoole Bridge this morning (Wednesday, July 29).

The bridge had to be closed while police dealt with the incident at around 10.30am.

Sgt Andy Wedgwood, from Chester Local Policing Unit, said: "There was a distressed male sitting on the bridge with his legs over the side this morning.

"A member of the public engaged with him for a short period until the police arrived.

"Officers convinced him to come down after talking to him for a short while.

"He is now receiving appropriate medical treatment and care."
