Pupils from Helsby Hillside, Helsby Horns Mill and Alvanley Primary Schools walked through the doors of Helsby Methodist Church to find themselves back in the year 1939 - wartime Britain!

The children were allocated their ‘evacuee families’ and throughout the morning took part in The Hope Journey Remembering, run by church volunteers.

The interactive workshops included rationing, hearing first hand wartime stories while sitting in an Anderson shelter, making a poppy wreath of hopes and dreams and hearing about Anne Frank.

The Hope Journey, written by Nicola Langton-Miller, was founded in 2008 to support primary schools in delivery of certain areas of the RE syllabus and has gone from strength to strength.
