A HOSPITAL worker from Helsby has been honoured for completing 50 years of unbroken service with the NHS.

Angela Edwards MBE, who works as a medical education administrator and patient welfare officer at the Brooker Centre in Halton Hospital in Runcorn, achieved the milestone on Friday.

The 67-year-old was joined by more than 60 co-workers past and present in a celebration of her service.

She received a certificate, a bunch of flowers, a cake and £175 worth of holiday vouchers from her colleagues.

Angela, of Hallastone Road, Helsby, said: “It was absolutely fabulous, I was very humbled to see how many people turned up to congratulate me on completing my 50 years of service.

“I have enjoyed just about every minute of my working life and made some wonderful friends, I will certainly miss it when I retire next year.”

Angela, who is set to retire next February, was made an MBE in 2003, in recognition of her service to the NHS.

And in 2008 she was a special guest at an exclusive 10 Downing Street reception, organised by then Prime Minister Gordon Brown to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the NHS.
