Sport fever hit Helsby Hillside Primary School last week.

Pupils from across the school participated in activities to celebrate National Sports Week.

Key Stage One and Key Stage Two held separate sports days and the whole school came together on Wednesday to complete its first Race for Life in aid of Cancer Research.

Younger members of the school community ran or walked in a relay-style event, while the school’s cross-country squad and headteacher Craig Richardson ran the whole 5k.

Mr Richardson said: “It was a fantastic event, enjoyed by all and hopefully it has raised lots of money for this very worthy charity.”

On Thursday, children from Key Stage Two represented the school at the inteschools’ district sports event.

A ‘mini Wimbledon’ tournament, organised by two of Helsby Hillside’s junior sports leaders, rounded the week off.

The school’s sporting success isn’t confined to National Sports Week however, as the Year 5 and 6 football team recently won the local schools’ league for the third consecutive year and teams have qualified for forthcoming county games in cricket, basketball, netball, tri-golf and indoor athletics.
