Helsby High has been donating generously to the plight of refugees escaping war-torn Syria.

The school held its own ‘Rucksacks for Refugees’ collection and received a fantastic response from the community.

Bags loaded with treats and toys will go to the Share charity which supports those fleeing conflict in the Middle East.

In particular they will go to children living in refugee camps in Syria and across Europe.

Millions have been forced to flee their homes in a devastating civil war.

Students, staff and parents had combined to fill the packs with vitals including warm clothing and toiletries, as well as gifts including colouring books and puzzles.

A total of 151 rucksacks were donated.

Teacher Becky McGovern organised the collection and said she was ‘delighted and overwhelmed’ with ‘incredibly generous donations’ from the school community.

Some Sixth Form and Year 11 students even gave up their own time to help sort the donations.

The bags were loaded onto the Helsby High minibus and taken to the Share headquarters in Mold where they can go on to those who need them most.
