HELEN Davies has completed solo half-marathons, but on October 1 she will join thousands of other runners for the first time.
Helen, a 27-year-old youth worker based at Rudheath, is aiming to finish the Great North Run at Newcastle to raise funds for the Meningitis Research Foundation.
She said: 'It is something that affects children and young people and when I ran a youth club at Frodsham we did a project to raise awareness of meningitis.
'As young adults are the second most at-risk age group after babies it is so important that they learn the symptoms of this deadly disease.
'I'm pleased that the money I'll raise through people sponsoring my run will be used by the charity to help make young people more aware of meningitis and septicaemia.'
She added: 'I run as a hobby and I've done 13 miles in training so I am confident about completing the race. Not so sure about the time though!'
Helen, of Lakehouse Close, Weaverham, has £300 pledged in sponsorship so far and would welcome further donations. She can be contacted by e-mail at helen.davies@ cheshire.gov.uk
