Hayrack Butchery and Farm Shop in Thornton-le-Moors has been recognised as one of the nation’s best bangers.

Martin Platt’s eponymous Platty’s Fatties scooped gold in the North West’s Traditional Pork Sausage category LovePork’s annual British Sausage Week contest.

The awards, which drew more than 700 entries, are now in their 19th year and aim to celebrate the fry-up staple and best accompaniment to potato mash.

Martin said: “I’m over the moon with this award as it was the first competition I have ever entered.”

The annual awards were held at Smiths of Smithfields in London, where Martin received his ‘golden sausage’ from host and JLS star turned farmer Jonathan Benjamin ‘JB’ Gill.

“The quality and taste of this year’s entries has been truly astounding and it’s a huge honour to be able meet some of the butchers and producers behind the country’s best bangers,” said JB.
