A TALENTED pianist has won a prestigious Chester music award.

Harry Fox, 22, has won the Lakewood music exchange scholarship from the Chester branch of the People to People Association.

The Trinity College London Masters student, whose mother lives in Higher Kinnerton, played Bach’s Prelude and Fugue in C-sharp minor and Chopin’s Berceuse Opus 57 for judges.

Chairman of judges Kelvin Leslie said: “Harry ultimately won the day (by) holding the attention and projecting his view of the music with thoughtfulness and conviction. In short, he provided ample evidence of his ability to leave an audience wanting to hear more.”

Harry will travel to Lakewood, Colorado next year for a two-week recital visit and will perform at concerts in Eaton Park and Nantwich this summer.

He said: “It will be a wonderful opportunity to play with an orchestra”

Harry studied at Chetham’s School of Music in Manchester and the Purcell School of Music in Watford before reading music at the Royal College of Music in London.

The Young Singer award of £100 was won by Edward Reid, of Tarvin, a student at Abbey Gate College in Saighton.
