A student at The Hammond School in Chester has been offered a place to study at The Royal Academy of Music in London.

Professional Musical Theatre student Jordan Li Smith, of Wrexham, will study for a Post Graduate Diploma in Music Direction at the top music college starting in September this year.

Hammond School principal Maggie Evans said: “This is a highly prestigious course - they have only offered two places to candidates from all over Great Britain and Jordan, at only 19, is very young to have been offered a place. We are, of course, extremely proud of his achievements.”

Jordan is a classically trained pianist and he has been musical director/assistant musical director for several college productions and last year’s pantomime season.

Also a budding composer and lyricist, Jordan is currently working on two projects, one of which, Summer In The Lakes, had a section workshopped and performed at London's Etcetera Theatre.

As a young performer, Jordan was one of the 12 finalists in the BBC TV talent show I’d Do Anything .  He subsequently joined the original cast of the West End Revival cast of the musical Oliver! at the Theatre Royal in Drury Lane in 2009.

He is also an alumnus of the National Youth Music Theatre.

His Hammond School credits include the Phantom in The Phantom Of The Opera and Marius in Les Misérables.

Jordan said;  “I would like to thank my mum, Pikfung, my girlfriend, Jodie, and my family for their never-ending love and support.”
