BARGAIN hunters are flocking to Habitat in Chester following an announcement on Friday that the company is going into administration.

Staff at the Pepper Street store confirmed that ‘the administrators are in’ but no-one from advisory and restructuring specialists Zolfo Cooper was available to comment.

Yesterday (Wednesday), the shop was offering up to 20% off items including tables, chairs, picture frames, towels and kitchenware.

H Realisations Limited, formerly Habitat UK Limited, operates 33 stores across the UK, employing approximately 870 staff.

Three London stores (Tottenham Court Road, Kings Road and Finchley Road) have been sold, along with intellectual property, the online business and certain stock to Home Retail Group Limited, which owns Argos, and approximately 130 staff will transfer across as a result of the sale.

Fraser Gray, partner at Zolfo Cooper said: “The company has been suffering from cash flow difficulties in recent months.

“We will continue to assess all possible options for the remaining parts of the business and would welcome expressions of interest from interested parties.”

“In the meantime the company will continue to fulfil existing customer orders and honour all vouchers issued prior to the appointment.”
