A TEAM of gym fanatics are preparing to race for 24 hours straight to raise money for powered wheelchairs for disabled children in Frodsham and Helsby.

Members of Gym and Tonic, a Lachford based gym, are training hard to get ready for an off-road relay race which will see them running through the night to complete the 480k run.

The 16 members, who will divide themselves into two relay teams for the race, are putting themselves through the gruelling challenge to raise money for Wheels 4 Wheels a charity founded by Frodsham GP Dr Patrick Milroy.

The runners will cross the starting line at noon on Saturday (July 30) running 10km laps to complete the course by noon the following day, in the hope of raising thousands of pounds for the charity to provide powered wheelchairs to hundreds of local disabled children.

The event is one of the first fundraising activities for the new charity, which will see Dr Milroy, of Frodsham and Peter Holland, of Tarporley, cycling 3,500 miles across the USA in April next year.

The grandfather-of-three said: “We see this as a great adventure, we want to do some sightseeing along the way and enjoy the journey.

“It will be a massive challenge, but if we can help just a few local children it will be all worthwhile.”

The Gym and Tonic running team will be running the Adidas Thunder Run at Catton Park , Walton-on-Trent, this weekend.
