A MAN has admitted carrying out a racially aggravated assault on his brother's carer.

Colin John Thompson, 39, pleaded guilty to assaulting Blessing Moyo by beating which was racially aggravated.

He entered his plea when he appeared before Chester, Ellesmere Port and Neston magistrates on Wednesday.

Wayil Eisa, prosecuting, said the victim had started caring for Thompson's 50-year-old brother Alan, who had suffered a stroke, only two days before the assault, which happened on August 18.

'At 6.45pm on that day Alan left the house and Moyo later discovered he had gone to the Princes pub with his brother Colin,' he said.

'Both returned to Alan's address in Queens Gardens.'

Ms Moyo said that Thompson, of Flatt Lane, Ellesmere Port, appeared to be argumentative so she decided to go to bed to avoid him.

Mr Eisa told the court that Thompson followed the victim upstairs into her bedroom and began questioning her about her background, saying 'I don't like blacks', and made other racially offensive comments.

'Moyo tried to leave but he took hold of her by the lapels of her jacket and pushed her and punched her in the face before leaving the bedroom,' said Mr Eisa.

Defending, Jack McGarva, asked magistrates to order a presentence report and said that although the assault was aggravated by the racial abuse, it was not a racially motivated attack.

Magistrates adjourned sentence until October 4, but left all sentencing options, including custody, open.
