Police report ‘several incidents’ involving Grimsby FC fans prior to this afternoon’s clash at Chester FC’s Swansway Stadium which resulted in a pub closing its doors.

Chester police tweeted shortly before today’s 3pm kick-off: “Several incidents involving Grimsby FC fans dealt with around City. 3 males arrested for various separate offences.”

Pictures posted on social media showed a heavy police presence around the railway station, including outside The Live Rooms in Station Road, as fans arrived in the city.

One Chester fan posted on Deva Chat: “Lots of trouble in the Town Crier. Apparently Grimsby fans have trashed the place. Loads of police on the scene and escorting the coach to the ground.”

The Town Crier was unwilling to comment about the reports because of ‘company policy’ but have since put up a sign outside the premises saying: "We are closed for the remainder of the day. We apologise for any inconvenience that this may cause."

British Transport Police confirmed Grimsby fans were to be escorted back to the railway station by police and put on the train back to Grimsby.
