A MAN with two jobs has admitted taking his girlfriend's Toyota TR4 without consent.

David John Rawson, aged 21, is manager of the Yew Tree Inn at High Street in Gresford and also works as a play school attendant at a local primary school in Marford.

At 1am on New Year's Day he received a phone call at the pub from a friend who wanted a lift and he took his girlfriend's car, owned by her father, without consent.

He was stopped by police, but when asked who the car belonged to, he sped off.

But in the early hours on the same day he rang police and admitted what he had done.

Defending solicitor Stephen Edwards said it had a happy ending.

The defendant's girlfriend, who had been extremely angry with him, had since forgiven him.

He had made a lot of bad decisions that night.

The first stupid decision was to go and pick up a friend who appeared distressed after an incident in Wrexham town centre.

Mr Edwards said that despite his client's large stature he was something of a softie and agreed to go - taking the car without consent.

When he was stopped by the police, he knew that the writing was on the wall and he drove off from officers.

That had been “idiotic", said Mr Edwards, but he came to his senses, rang the police and admitted what he had done.

He had not been drinking, but drove away because he knew he was not insured.

“These are a series of very foolish decisions by an otherwise decent young man," Mr Edwards told the court.

Rawson admitted taking the car, having no insurance and failing to stop and was fined £525 with £100 costs.

He was also banned from driving for six months under the totting up procedure because of the number of penalty points on his licence.
