MP GRAHAM Evans supported International Women’s Day 2013 by inviting three students from his constituency to visit Parliament and find out more about the roles women can play in politics.

Bethany Poole came from Helsby High School to Westminster to take part in the Inspire a generation scheme.

Graham said: “This was a fantastic opportunity to encourage young women to think about how politics affects them and how they can engage in it.

“When we think about politics it can seem like a male dominated world - International Women’s Day is a very important project as part of the ongoing battle to change that.

“There are many different ways that we can all be involved in politics - not just as politicians - and I sincerely hope that day has given this very intelligent young women the inspiration and encouragement to think about democracy in a very different way.

“The girls also had the chance to meet Mr Speaker, who is a strong and vocal supporter of the Parliagender equality scheme and to meet Members like Mary Macleod.”

He added: “On Friday, here and around the world, we marked International Women’s Day – a day to promote women’s rights and women’s achievements.
