BLACON is to be one of the UK’s first low-carbon communities supported by the Government’s Department of Energy and Climate Change.

A short documentary film about the project has been made by Rapport Creative which describes how Blacon, a community of 16,000 people, has set about developing ‘four greens’ – green spaces, green energy, green transport and social enterprises.

The film, which was used as part of the successful proposal, will be a key element of the charity’s communications.

Blacon will be one of only 10 UK communities to be supported by the Department of Energy and Climate Change as it moves toward becoming a model sustainable urban community.

More than 300 communities applied to the Low Carbon Communities Challenge, and now it is successful Blacon will champion energy efficiency and help local people cut a fifth off their gas and electricity bills.

The film opens with the voice of Ed Miliband, Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change, but the majority of narrative comes from people living and working within Blacon.

The main purpose of the film is to highlight that Blacon is ready for change and to attract funding and inward investment of technologies, from partners such as British Gas, into the area.
