GIRLS from The Queen’s School shone at the recent annual Cheshire Libraries InterSchools Book Quiz.

A team of four Year 8 girls found themselves representing Chester against the other three finalists from across the region: St Nicholas Catholic High School in Northwich, Knutsford Academy and Merchant Taylor’s Girls’ School from Liverpool.

After battling against some tough opposition the girls eventually came away runners-up to St Nicholas Catholic High School.

The competition involved around 30 schools and ran over six months. Pupils had to read a set text each month and answer questions on it as well as general literature questions.

The top four schools then attended the final round of the quiz, this year held at The King’s School, Chester.

Prizes were awarded by children’s writer Mark Robson, author of the Dragon Orb series of books.

Gilly Mayes, Queen’s School’s Librarian said: “It was a tough quiz and the girls did really well. They have come away with lots of new ideas for reading and had a lot of fun in the process. I’m really proud of them.”
