A TEENAGE girl has been handed a six-month referral order after admitting assaulting a police officer after a late-night row with her boyfriend.

The 15-year-old from Winsford, who cannot be named for legal reasons, pleaded guilty to the offence on April 12 at a hearing at Vale Royal Youth Court on Wednesday.

Police were called after a homeowner reported a heated row between the defendant and her partner. Despite constant warnings, both continued to be aggressive and were swearing loudly at each other.

Police tried to restrain the boyfriend, but the defendant intervened, pushing an officer in the face and allowing him to run away.

The court heard she had previous reprimands and cautions for assault.

Derek McDonald, defending, told magistrates his client 'deeply regrets' the incident. He said: 'It's not just herself she has let down but her whole family. Her father is particularly livid.'

The girl was ordered to pay £65 court costs and £80 compensation to the officer.
