VILLAGERS from Shocklach held a day of celebrations and fundraising activities for their parish church.

The residents of Shocklach are holding a series of fundraising events to help secure the future of their 860 year old parish church, St Edith’s.

The Shocklach and Threapwood School Association kicked off the money making efforts with the school fete and art exhibition.

The fete included stalls, games and displays and raised more than £1,300 for the church.

There was a penalty shoot out, a tug of war, and a welly wanging to entertain the crowds. Visitors also had a chance to view the artwork at the exhibition in the church which had been organised by villager Wendy Brown.

Future fundraising events include:

Saturday, July 31 at 6.30pm there will be an Open Air Brass Band Concert at St Edith’s.

Sunday, August 1 at 11.15am there will be a Rushbearing Service at St Edith’s.

Sunday, September 19 at 11.15am there will be a Community 860 Celebration Service. At 1.30pm there will be an 860 Lunch at the Bull and at 4pm there will be a Folk Band at the Bull, in Shocklach.
