A CHESTER band is planning a benefit night tomorrow following a story on the front page of the Chronicle.

Every Other Tuesday will play Alexander’s on Friday, October 12, to raise money for cancer research in support of Maureen Tolefree, a friend of keyboard player Derek Way and lead singer Clare Camino.

Amateur actress Maureen was taken ill during a run of the hit play Calendar Girls at the Forum Studio Theatre and was diagnosed with a return of the blood cancer multiple myeloma.

Maureen was playing the role of Celia in the Tip Top Productions show. Ironically the play was written by Alvanley-based playwright Tim Firth after members of the Rylstone and District WI in Yorkshire posed nude for a calendar in 1999 to raise funds to support leukaemia research, following the death of John Baker, the husband of WI member Angela, from the blood cancer non-Hodgkins lymphoma.

All proceeds from the gig, at 9pm, will go to Maureen’s chosen charity, the Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research Fund.

Tickets are £5 and are on sale at Alexander’s in Rufus Court, telephone 01244 340005.
