Students preparing to start at Blacon’s new-look high school after the summer will benefit from a generous funding boost by a leading social enterprise.

Avenue Services has donated £15,000 to go towards buying new furniture and equipment for the school, which has moved next door into its new premises on Melbourne Road.

When the school opens its doors for the first time in September, the money will help kit out the new library as well as an intervention area for students who need more personalised support.

Both rooms will be named in recognition of the financial support given by Avenue Services, a joint venture between leading housing provider Sanctuary Housing and Cheshire West and Chester Council. The library will be called The Avenue, while the intervention area will be known as The Sanctuary.

In addition, Avenue Services has also contributed £20,000 towards a new 3G sports pitch due to be completed by May 2017 once the old school building has been demolished.

This additional donation has enabled the school to reach its target of the £50,000 needed in order to secure the rest of the funding, £450,000, from the Football Federation.

Head of Avenue Services Paul Knight, said: “Blacon High School is a vitally important part of our community and we are proud to have played our role in helping to provide the best facilities for students to excel.

“We have an excellent relationship with the school and look forward to fostering this further in the future.”

Blacon High School headteacher Sue Yates said: “Avenue Services is one of a number of local organisations who have supported the new school and we greatly value their involvement.

“We pride ourselves in creating the best learning environment for our students and this funding can only help us achieve that.”
