A war memorial in Frodsham has been reinstalled after refurbishment.

Frodsham Town Council’s First World War working group are also behind the release of a new book.

The memorial at Frodsham Methodist Church on Kingsley Road has been put back in place on its plinth.

Inscriptions and names which could not be read before because of age and weathering are now clear, apart from one which is still unsolved.

A re-dedication of the memorial is being planned and details of arrangements will be published soon.

Giving an insight into Frodsham’s war history, From Battlefield to Blighty by local historian Arthur Smith is about the town’s Auxiliary Military Hospital.

Originally an out-of-print book, it has been reprinted by the council and is available from their office for £10.99.

Next up is the Harvest of Memories event being organised by Frodsham Methodist Church on September 26.

The working group are also working to replace the lost sundial at St Laurence Church in the near future.

Member Pammi Taylor said: “I believe we are justifiably proud of our achievements in fulfilling our brief from the town council.

“At our next meeting we’ll be planning activities and events for 2016 and trust the people of Frodsham will be as supportive of our efforts as they have been up to now.

“We have left a space for the ‘undecipherable name’ on the memorial and are continuing to trace the correct name which we hope to get engraved in due course.”

Anyone who could help trace the correct name is asked to get in touch.
