BUSINESSMEN hoping to build a 42-bedroom guest lodge in the heart of Frodsham say the development would boost the town’s economy.

But residents have slammed the scheme as ‘utterly preposterous’.

Roger and Jill Maher, who run the award-winning The Courtyard self-catering cottages in Frodsham and Helsby, and Frodsham businessman Joe Halpin, are seeking planning permission from Cheshire West and Chester Council to build ‘affordable hotel accommodation’.

The development would be located on the former Gleaves builders’ yard – derelict for the past seven years – which is close to the railway station and adjacent to the town’s largest and busiest free car park.

Frodsham Town Council’s planning committee has sided with objectors, with committee chairman Cllr Graham Bondi calling the plan ‘over the top’.
