FRODSHAM will be adorned with the ‘most inoffensive graffiti ever’ by guerrilla artists aiming to leave colourful knitted and crocheted surprises for residents and visitors to discover around almost every street corner.

Two local young mums, artists working under the names Frank Spinello and Kaety Moon, aim to put the market town in the spotlight with a community art/craft project they are launching as part of the Independent strand of this year’s Liverpool Biennial festival of contemporary art.

The Ties that Bind project will see small crafted gifts embedded into nooks and crannies around the town and Castle Park, with larger deliberately eye-catching wool and thread creations popping up in more public open spaces until the end of the Liverpool Biennial on November 25.

Residents are being asked to donate wool – to be left at Millmark Health Foods, Hales, Devonshire Bakery and Dandelion gift shop – for use by the artists.

They are also inviting people to bring wool and join them for a special workshop at the small craft room at Castle Park Arts Centre on Saturday from 10am to 12pm to knit or crochet patches which the artists will sew together to create a culminating sculpture in the grounds of the arts centre.

Spinello and Moon say they are encouraged by public support for their test creations released last month, which included a Main Street pavement bollard transformed into a fluffy giant flower.

“This is very much a community project for all ages, and we hope enhancing public spaces like this will get people talking about their town and change their perception of their surroundings,” they said.
