A successful Sunday saw more than 250 competitors take on the annual Frodsham Downhill Run.

Now in its 10th year, runners of all ages sprinted their way round the 1.3 mile route on July 5.

Starting from the war memorial on Frodsham Hill, the race stretched through to the finish line in front of Castle Park House, where the town’s Festival in the Park was also being held.

Powering home in first was last year’s winner, 15-year-old Christopher Larkin, with a time of 5 mins 30 secs.

He was one of four completing the run for a 10th year, along with Matt Larkin, Ron Thomson and Dilys O’Neill, who will receive an award as the oldest competitor in the race.

Frodsham Community Association organiser Sue Thomson said: “The 10th Downhill Run was another success for us with many local families taking part and we were lucky with the weather.

“The Downhill Run has now exceeded the number of hill races which is amazing.”

Closely behind the victor was the leading adult male Robert Morris, while Sarah Larkin took the adult female category.

Andy Robinson topped the veteran times, Skye Marsh the youth female charts, while Alexander Causton and Harriet Lightfoot led the juniors.

An award will also go to one-year-old Seren Causton as the youngest in the race.

The festival saw the opening up of the Castle Park Arts Centre with several craft displays, and more than 40 stalls outside in the park itself.

Sponsoring the run were Frodsham & District Round Table and the Rotary Club of Frodsham and Helsby.

Sue Thomson added: “The Downhill Run is very dependant on volunteer help and with over 40 people involved on the day we really couldn’t have done it without them.”
