WHEN you mention July 4, most people’s thoughts turn to American Independence Day. However, for Brian and Jean Miller that was the day they got hitched exactly 60 years ago.

Brian and Jean, of Doric Avenue, Frodsham, are this month celebrating their diamond wedding anniversary – all these years after getting married at Weaverham Parish Church in 1953.

Brian, born and raised in Frodsham, and Jean, from Winsford, first met in Northwich in 1950 and arranged a first date at the Plaza cinema where sports fanatic Brian spoke all evening on the subject of cricket as ‘not so sport mad’ Jean had to listen politely.

But the couple hit it off and married three years later.

Brian is an avid sports fan and in recent years was actively involved in organising local football teams from the Bulls Head and Ring O’ Bells pubs. Meanwhile, Jean, 78, loves reading, making needlecraft portraits and walking.

Brian and Jean are surrounded by a growing family of their daughter Janet Dennett of Francis Street, Frodsham, plus three grand children and four great grand children who helped them celebrate their anniversary last Thursday.

The Millers had an open house for family and friends on the Saturday after their special day.
