The group behind Frodsham Community Centre say it’s time to ‘use or lose’ the facility, which has hundreds of people pass through its doors each week.

The Fluin Lane facility was built in 1969 and is run by Frodsham Community Association, a registered charity comprising local residents.

Now its chairman, Roger Williams, has issued a rallying call for new blood to join them, as the responsibility currently falls on too few shoulders.

Roger explained that because the centre does not receive regular external funding, it relies entirely on the room lettings, bar takings and income from events, which in turn need to be staffed by volunteers.

He said: “Frodsham Community Centre has been an important part of Frodsham life over the last 40 years, but now it needs bringing into the 21st century with a facelift for the building and fresh ideas about how to attract people to use the many facilities it offers.

“We get anything from 800 to 2,000 people a week using the centre – it is very well used and it takes a big commitment to run.

“In these cash-strapped times and with a building almost 50 years old, we need to recruit more volunteers if the centre is to survive.”

The hub is home to more than 50 groups – such as line dancing, model car racing, natural history and calligraphy – which use it on a weekly or monthly basis.

It also hosts community events such as pantomimes, parties, quiz nights and fashion shows.

Desired skills in prospective volunteers include financial, fundraising, event management, publicity, building maintenance and bar experience.

Roger says volunteering with the association provides opportunities to meet new people, gain new skills and support the wider community.

“Frodsham Community Centre is an excellent facility and a major asset to the town,” he added.

“It is your community and your centre and it’s time to ‘use it or lose it’.”
