FRIENDS of a teacher who has terminal cancer are showing their support with a collective head shave fundraiser.

Sarah Bell, Gill Dykes, Stephanie Humphreys and Joanna Pemberton are all planning to shave their heads in the Liverpool One shopping centre in their efforts to help Lisa Williams, now of Whitby, Ellesmere Port and recently of Capenhurst.

Lisa, an ICT and business teacher at the school, has cancer of the lung, bone and liver. Her condition is incurable and, aged just 33, is looking to make the most of her time with partner Shaun Höll, who is now a carer for her, and four-year-old son David, who goes to Capenhurst Primary School.

A group of her friends have now got on board and set up a Facebook group called Baldy Birds for Lisa Williams to promote the head-shave fundraiser, with proceeds from the event going to pay for Lisa and her family to head to Disneyland Florida for the trip of a lifetime.

Lisa said: “I am quite shocked and overwhelmed, the effort and support they have put in already has been phenomenal – they have been getting publicity and even looking at holiday insurance as that can be difficult for cancer patients.

“I was diagnosed with breast cancer in February last year and went through chemotherapy at Clatterbridge, and got the all clear in November 2011, so I could get on with my life.

“I started my job in January but the cancer has returned. I have had hormone therapy and chemotherapy, then my hair started to fall out.

“I couldn’t stand the way it was sticking to everything so I posted on Facebook I was shaving my head. All the girls talked about what they could do and they decided they would shave their heads in support.

“I couldn’t believe it, I am totally shocked by the response from everybody.”

Lisa added she had received great support from staff at Clatterbridge when receiving treatment there.

Sarah, one of the four women who will have their heads shaved, said: “We have had great support already, thanks to Zoe Carmichael. She isn’t having her head shaved as she is getting married next year, but she has spread the word online and got so many people aware of it.

“We have raised hundreds of pounds and had donations from as far away as Australia.”

Several male team members are also preparing to show support with a charity waxathon.
