A free midwifery service is leading the way in offering pregnant women in Cheshire personalised care, as recommended by the National Maternity Review.

The review into maternity services, published on Tuesday, February 23, said women’s maternity care should be personalised to their needs and they should have continuity of carer.

One to One Midwives provides NHS-commissioned maternity services which specialise in a 'case-loading' model of care. This is where a woman has the support of one dedicated midwife during pregnancy and after the birth of her baby, and during labour if a home birth has been chosen.

The organisation is commissioned by West Cheshire Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) and is insured and regulated in the same way as other NHS providers.

Continuity of care

A One to One Midwives spokeswoman said: “One to One Midwives believe that we are already on our way to delivering what the maternity report recommends - a personalised care plan, with care wrapped around the woman and her family; true continuity of carer with women having a known and trusted midwife throughout the whole of her pregnancy, birth and up to six weeks after the baby is born; our midwives cross boundaries and can follow the women wherever they choose or need to access care and we now welcome the opportunity to work alongside NHS England and the Clinical Commissioning Groups to provide women with choice.”

One to One (North West) Ltd clinical director and founder Joanne Parkington said: “One midwife, one woman, one relationship - this is the very heart of what One to One provides.

“We believe passionately that personalised care should be the right of every woman - to ensure a future generation of confident parents and healthier babies.”
