TWO psychics who have told police they know the location of Moors Murders victim Keith Bennett's grave claim the boy's spirit led them there.

Mediums Christine Hamlett and Jackie Dennison believe they have found the last resting place of the youngster abducted and murdered by Ian Brady and Myra Hindley in 1964.

They say they have become the first psychics ever to be taken seriously by police, who have promised to investigate their claims and could even excavate the site in a bid to find his body.

They took police up to the suspected burial site a fortnight ago - and are hopeful the police will take their claims seriously.

Christine, of Barnton, said: 'We were quite surprised at the reaction from police.

'They have never taken any mediums on to the moors before and they seemed to be taking us seriously. They certainly didn't ridicule us.

'Detective Sergeant Phillip Steele seemed quite amazed and the police said it was as good a burial site as they had looked at.'

As exclusively revealed in the Chronicle two months ago, Christine and Jackie first visited the Moors armed with a map drawn by Christine which the sisters believe was influenced by the spirit of Keith.

They are convinced they have found the spot where the 12-year-old was buried and have visited the site with his mother Winnie Johnson.

'Winnie has become a friend and she calls us quite regularly,' said Jackie. 'It gives her hope.'

The saga began almost 10 years ago after Brady and Hindley finally admitted to the boy's murder. Around that time Christine claims she began to see a vision of a desolate landscape whenever she heard the name 'Keith Bennett'.

The visions grew stronger and she drew a map of the site. Then in February this year the pair say they were contacted by Keith and have since made it their mission to find his missing body and return it to his mother.

Jackie explained: 'We believe Keith has been in touch with us for a number of months, possibly even years. Early this year Christine started having the images more and more often and then we both started getting them.

'We started getting lots of information from Keith. For instance, he told us his glasses were still around - we both thought he had them with him when he was taken, but it turned out his mother had kept them. I could really feel a connection when I held them.

'He gave us lots of information, little things that didn't seem to make much sense, but all slotted into place. He kept going on about six-pence and it turned out John Kilbride, Lesley Ann Downey and Keith all had sixpence on them at the time. He also mentioned shoes - he was wearing new shoes when he was taken.'

The pair sent a copy of their map to Hindley before she died and asked Brady to verify its accuracy, but without success.

Instead, the mediums claim they were guided by the spirit of Keith when they went to Saddleworth Moor to hunt for the body.

'Keith said he would show Christine the spot, he said she would know it when she found it,' said Jackie. 'He said he would leave a sign and it would be something yellow. The night before he told me in meditation there would be a balloon when we got there.

'He kept giving us clues as to where he was then directed us to a rock-face on the moor. We were heading for a place called Adam's Cross which Keith had mentioned.

'All the way Keith was guiding us and telling us which way to turn, until we found the rock-face he'd described. It was in an area exactly the same as the map Christine had drawn.

'On top of the mound we found a red balloon tied with a yellow ribbon and four tiny black crosses were laid in a pattern, one of them upside down.

'We could even feel vibrations under the ground. It was just incredible.

'Keith told us he was buried deeper than the others, that there was a natural dip in the ground which Brady had used to bury him.'

Keith has been missing since June 16, 1964. He had left his mother Winnie's house to go to his grandmother's where he regularly stayed.

Just a mile separated the two houses, but Keith was reported missing the next day.

Although Brady and Hindley were always suspected, Keith's disappearance remained a mystery until 1987 when, after a letter from Winnie, Hindley admitted involvement in the murder of Keith and Pauline Reade.

Brady's confession came soon afterwards and Pauline's body was recovered from the Moors. However, Keith's body has remained undiscovered.
