ONE of the best football facilities in Cheshire is being developed on land between Tarvin and Kelsall.

The ground, named the ‘Field of Dreams’ off Chester Road, has been transformed from a farmer’s field into an almost perfect playing surface.

Home to Tarvin Rockets and Tarvin FC, the ground now boasts changing rooms, black and white fencing, a dugout, floodlit training ground and a stand.

Owner Johnny Walker, who runs Kelsall Forestry, started the project several years ago while his brother Rod has completed the majority of the groundwork and construction.

They have already invested £100,000 worth of time and materials to create the ground.

Now, having recently failed to complete an agreement with the FA for funding, the Walker brothers are taking matters into their own hands.

Johnny said: “This has been my passion. I have always had the drive to do this and hopefully it will spur the youngsters on to become a success.

“It is a shame that we couldn’t get the funding from the FA but we just couldn’t meet their terms.”

Rod added: “We are now going to hold a fundraising night ourselves and we hope people will come along to support it and support local football. Johnny has put his heart and soul into this project so it’s important to us that we do everything we can to ensure it keeps building.”

With plans to install a toilet block and improve facilities further, funding events are now key to the future of the Tarvin club.

The Walker brothers have organised a live music event featuring the Blues Brothers and a hog roast on July 10 at 7.30pm. Tickets cost £12, to book call 01606 853943 or 01829 752522.
