Heavy rain overnight has caused delays for commuters.

Drivers reported large amounts of surface water on the M53 as they made their way to work.

Those travelling on the A483 said there were heavy delays towards the Posthouse Roundabout on the first day back at school for many children.

Adrian Rogers tweeted: “Money well spent! #a483 #posthouseroundabout.”

Richard Knew said: “A483 in a very wet condition this morning. Big flood on the Rossett turn off slip road #Back2School.”

Train services have also experienced delays due to the amount of rainfall.

Routes from Chester which were affected included lines to Manchester Piccadilly, Llandudno Junction and Holyhead.

A basement was flooded on Hadlow Road, Neston and Liverpool Road also closed, Cheshire Fire were called to both incidents.

Cheshire Police said the problems, which also affected Willaston, were likely caused by burst drains and motorists were advised to avoid the area if they can.
