CHESHIRE West and Chester Council will raise three flags across the borough next week in anticipation of the second annual British Armed Forces Day.

Flags will fly outside Ellesmere Port Civic Hall, Chester Town Hall and Wyvern House in Winsford from Monday, June 21. They will be raised simultaneously, alongside other local authorities across the country.

British Armed Forces Day, which will be held on Saturday June 26, will provide an opportunity for the nation to show its appreciation for the contributions made by all of those who serve, or have served, in Her Majesty’s Armed Forces.

Events will stretch across the week, taking place in Ellesmere Port, Winsford and Chester, with councillors, veterans, representative of the armed forces and local dignitaries in attendance.

Councillor Neil Ritchie, Lord Mayor of Chester and Council Chairman, said: “British Armed Forces Day creates a respectful opportunity for us to appreciate the efforts of those men and women, both past and present, who have dedicated their lives to our country.

“This is the second year that British Armed Forces Day has taken place and is a particularly poignant reminder at a time when so many of our armed forces are fighting for our national security abroad.

“I am delighted that we have this chance to recognise the contributions of veterans and serving members of the armed forces throughout the Cheshire West area.”
