YEAR 13 Business Studies students at Bishop Heber High School have presented a cheque for over £8,000 to Mark Lindley, head of PE, for the development of the proposed Community Fitness Suite.

The money was raised from a charity sports dinner which the students organised in November.

The profits far exceeded the amount expected from the event and the dinner proved to be a highly popular night out for people in the surrounding area of Malpas.

Students transformed the school main assembly hall into a room to match any high rating hotel venue with a colour scheme of blue and silver and a table layout suitable for such an event.

The evening was a sell out, with 300 guests attending. It included a four-course dinner, followed by guest speaker Mickey Thomas, former football player for Wales, Manchester United and Wrexham, where he scored a valuable free kick to defeat Arsenal in the FA Cup of 1992.

An auction of sporting memorabilia followed, with ex-student Richard Goodwin auctioneering football shirts from Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United and Arsenal and rounds of golf at various clubs.

The evening continued with comedian Stan Boardman.

The students involved in organising the event were: Louise Barnes, Sam Bevan, Sam Corbett, Robert Dodd, Chelcie Gong, Emma Gates, Abby

Haywood, Rachael Hillier, Will Howarth, Hannah Kendrick, David Maddy, Chris March, Nick Morgan, Matt Mullock, Holly Threlfall, Sian Underwood and Victoria Western.
