More than 90 per cent of parents of children due to start primary school in Cheshire West and Chester Council have secured a place at their chosen school.

According to a council spokesperson, 92% were offered a place at their first choice of school, 5% at their second choice and 1% at their third choice. The remaining 2% were not successful in securing a place at any of their preferred schools but have been allocated a place at the next available school in their area.

Parents now have until Tuesday, May 5 to accept the place at their chosen school.

Right to appeal

If you have been unsuccessful in your application you have a legal right to appeal.

You cannot appeal unless you have made an application for a school place and have been notified in writing of the reason why your child could not be admitted into the relevant year group.

You may appeal for each school at which a place has been refused and this must be in writing. Each appeal will be considered at separate hearings and you will need to complete a separate appeal form for each school and each child.

Last year, 61 appeals were heard for places in Cheshire West and Chester schools, of which only 3% were successful.

For more information on appealing, visit the council website and search School Admissions.
