EMERGENCY services were called to a city centre shop after a man fell through a glass roof.

At just after midnight on Thursday (December 29) police and paramedics filled Northgate Street, Chester after a man fell 12ft through the roof of the 02 phone shop.

Four ambulances from North West Ambulance Service, three police cars and two fire engines and a hydraulic platform arrived at the scene as firefighters used a ladder to rescue the man from the roof.

The man, who is thought to be in his early twenties, was taken to the Countess of Chester Hospital were he was treated for head injuries.

Revellers at busy Rosies nightclub on Northgate Street worked for around 20 minutes to rescue the man who had fallen through the roof into the staff area of the shop.

Manager of Rosies Nightclub David Cooper said that only one floor of the club had been open, and that the rooftop smoking area was closed, but that the whole area was a ‘rabbit warren’ of fire escapes and locked doors which someone could easily scale.

The 02 shop confirmed that trading had not been effected by the incident and that the store was open as usual for business.
