Occupants of a two-storey block of flats in Barnton had to be evacuated after a fire broke out on its roof on Wednesday morning (March 4).

Firefighters were called to the blaze on Blackcroft Avenue at 10.47am.

Police closed Oak Road while crews extinguished the fire, which was on a roof of around three metres square.

A spokesman for Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "All four flats in the two-storey property were evacuated and all persons accounted for.

"A fire investigation into the cause of this fire will take place."

Fire engines from Northwich and Winsford attended, as well as the hydraulic platform from Stockton Heath to allow firefighters to access the rood and remove tiles.
