EMERGENCY services were called to a fire at the site of a former supermarket.

Fire engines, police cars and ambulances were sent to the old Morrisons site in River Lane, Saltney, at last night (Tuesday).

Shortly after arriving at the scene firefighters were told by a woman that her son was missing and may have been inside.

A spokeswoman for North Wales Fire and Rescue said: "As the incident developed an 11-year-old boy was reported missing and initially assumed to be within the premises, but was soon found safe nearby."

Two firefighters were injured during the incident.

A 39-year-old from Deeside was taken to Wrexham Maelor Hospital to be treated for a shoulder injury, and a 47-year-old from Mold suffered a leg injury and was treated at the scene.

"North Wales Fire and Rescue Service is carrying out an investigation into both injuries," added the spokeswoman.

She added that the early indications are that the fire was started deliberately.
