FIREFIGHTERS battled through the night to save family homes as the owners watched in horror from the roadside.

At just after 8.20pm on Thursday firefighters were called to reports of a fire in Top Road, Kingsley.

Neighbours evacuated their homes as flames ripped through a conservatory before spreading on to the neighbouring house’s rooftop and setting a family home on fire.

Six firefighters wearing breathing equipment used three main jets and hose reels to battle the blaze which took more than two hours to get under control.

Crews from Frodsham and Runcorn and Widnes Fire Station attended the blaze before calling in support from Ellesmere Port.

No one was hurt during the fire but two people were treated at the scene after experiencing breathing difficulties.

Firefighters stayed at the scene throughout the night damping the area down before leaving the village at just after 6am, almost 10 hours after the fire started.

It is not yet clear what started the fire which is thought to have been an accident and to have started in the conservatory.
