FIREFIGHTERS battled to control a blaze at a Chester hotel this morning after a porter spotted smoke pouring under a bedroom door.

At just after 4am today (Tuesday), firefighters were called to reports of a fire at the Travelodge on Warrington Road, Mickle Trafford, in Chester.

Guests were evacuated from the motorway hotel as two engines from Chester fire station raced to the blaze which had started in the bathroom of a ground floor bedroom at the hotel.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus entered the building and used hose reels to tackle the fire while a large industrial fan was used to disperse the smoke.

The occupant of the hotel room managed to escaped unhurt after a night porter was walking down the corridor and spotted the smoke pouring from under the door in the early hours of the morning, before alerting the guest.

Spokesperson for Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service Simon Gildea confirmed that no one had been hurt in the fire which had caused smoke damage to the bathroom.

“We are not yet sure of the cause of the fire,” said Mr Gildea. “Cheshire Fire and Rescue will be launching an investigation today in conjunction with Cheshire Police.”
