COMMUNITY based fire fighters are wanted in Frodsham.

A special open evening will be held at Frodsham Community Fire Station, Ship Street, on Wednesday, February 4, from 5- 8.30pm for anyone interested in becoming part of the Retained Duty System in the town.

Kevin Fenney, who oversees the system, said: “Our Retained Duty Staff attend exactly the same kind of emergency incidents as their full time colleagues and also provide an important service delivering a range of safety messages to their community.

“This is a vital part of Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service’s vision of zero preventable deaths and injuries from fires and other emergencies.”

Staff receive an annual payment of around £2,000 a year, as well as extra fees when they respond to emergencies and for training sessions. All applicants need to have a good level of fitness and live or work close to the fire station.

“The system is extremely flexible, however, and means people can be on standby either at home or in their full-time job and then respond when there is an emergency.” Added Kevin.

“People can put themselves forward to provide cover at certain periods so it can be ideal for those with free time during the day such as mums with young children at school.”
