FIREFIGHTERS worked through the night to dampen down flames at the gutted Robin Hood pub in Helsby.

Crews on two fire engines, from Ellesmere Port and Runcorn stations, remained at the scene of the blaze from 6-10pm on Friday, September 23 before the engine from Runcorn was left to tackle the burning embers alone into the early hours.

The accommodation area of the pub was completely destroyed while much of the roof and walls of the bar section remain unstable.

Five fire appliances had originally been at the scene of the fire, originally reported at 1.48pm on Friday.
