A fourth and final restaurant in the new Chester Dining Quarter is due to open this summer with plans for a spectacular roof-top dining area at the rear.

The Restaurant Bar & Grill will be located within a former Methodist chapel in Pepper Street, sandwiched between the Latin American-style Las Iguanas and American-themed Coast to Coast which opened last year along with Mexican restaurant Chimichanga.

Due to open this June, a planning application for the latest restaurant has just been lodged to create a glazed pavilion, with retractable roof, on top of an existing single storey extension to the rear of the grade II-listed chapel building.

It is proposed the pavilion be used as a dining area in conjunction with the main two-storey restaurant within the chapel which already enjoys full planning and listed building consent.

Restaurant Bar & Grill is a chain owned by Manchester-based Individual Restaurants with nearby outlets in Liverpool, Manchester and Alderley Edge.

The company also runs Piccolino on the opposite side of Pepper Street.

A recent press release from the company states: “Following the launch of the new look Piccolino, Clarence Street, Manchester, the team will be focusing on opening a brand new 250-cover flagship restaurant in Chester, under sister brand, The Restaurant Bar & Grill.”

Steven Walker, founder of Individual Restaurants, whose company recently announced ‘another record year’ following the recent opening of a flagship Piccolino in Alderley Edge, commented: “It’s always exciting to be opening restaurants in our North West home.”

A blue plaque on the wall of the soon-to-be new home of the Chester Restaurant Bar & Grill, says: “The Methodist New Connection Chapel opened in 1835 and closed just after the First World War when the building was sold. For many years the chapel was hidden inside a later garage and was only ‘rediscovered’ during conversion work in 1984.”

The Dining Quarter is located in buildings previously occupied by furniture retailers Multiyork and Habitat.
