Traffic is backing up throughout the city as faulty lights at Overleigh Roundabout cause rush hour chaos.

Reports are coming in that cars are at a standstill at the Fountains, Grosvenor and Bars Roundabout as motorists attempt to get home during rush hour today (Friday, September 26).

Traffic lights have failed at Overleigh Roundabout sparking delays on the A483 Wrexham Road and congestion up to junction five of the B5102 Rossett.

And motorists are currently facing wide-spread delays across the county, with a burst water main causing traffic issues on the A54 in Winsford and temporary traffic lights due to work on Sandy Lane in Huntington.

Traffic is reportedly backing up through the city centre due to the faulty traffic lights, which are said to be stuck on red, and delays are expected as resurfacing work is carried out on the carriageway of the A5268 St Oswald’s Way, from Hoole Way Roundabout to the Bars Roundabout.

The work, which is being carried out by Cheshire West and Chester Council, will see the A5268 closed in the south-east direction from 8pm, and is scheduled to be complete tonight (Friday, September 26).

King Street in Chester is currently closed for roadworks, between the junctions of Pemberton Road and Northgate Street.

Traffic is being diverted along Northgate Street, Princess Street, St Martins Way and the Fountains Roundabout.

And congestion is being reported on A5268 at the Bars Roundabout in both directions and the A56 Hoole Way Roundabout.

Traffic is also building on the A540 Parkgate Road as one lane is closed while workmen carry out roadworks between the Cheyney Road junction and A5116 Liverpool Road.

And roadworks are causing issues on the A51 between the Hoole Lane and Beaconsfield Street junction, with one lane closed.

In Winsford the A54 Oakmere Road, will be closed from 7pm whilst United Utilities repair a burst water main, and in Huntington motorists are experiencing minor delays due to temporary lights on the B5130 Sandy Lane while gas main work is carried out.
