Farndon Parish Council has purchased the village’s sports and social club in a bid to safeguard its future.

Re-branded by Farndon Community Trust as Farndon Community Club, it is available for bookings and plenty of new events are in the pipeline – including a summer party on July 1.

The parish council has leased the club to the recently-formed Farndon Community Trust, which will be responsible for its management.

'Hard work and tenacity'

Helen Anthony, one of the trustees, said: “Farndon Community Trust has come to fruition after the hard work and tenacity of a group of local residents who were determined to maintain the club as a village asset and improve it for use by the residents of Farndon and the surrounding villages for sporting, social and community activities.

“There are already plans for a number of improvements to the building, including a complete refurbishment of the existing toilets and a new permanent access ramp.

“The trust are then aiming to raise funds and apply for grants to improve the shower facilities and the kitchen at the club.”

Farndon Community Trust is seeking individuals who are willing to help organise activities such as film nights and fitness classes.
