THE family of a man who died in a road collision have paid tribute to ‘a loving father and grandfather’.

David Dutton, 51, was walking along Eaton Road with a 25-year-old man from Nantwich at about 12.45am on Saturday when a Nissan Micra was in collision with them.

The North West Ambulance Service was called to take Eaton resident Mr Dutton to the Countess of Chester Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The 25-year-old man suffered minor injuries in the collision.

His family said: "The whole family have been left devastated by the sudden death of David, a loving father and grandfather who will be greatly missed by all.

"The family wish to be left in peace at this moment of grief in order to come to terms with what has happened and hope anyone with any information that may help the police in their investigation contact them as soon as possible."

This week, floral tributes have been left on the roadside in memory of Mr Dutton.

A 23-year-old woman from Holywell, Flintshire, who was driving the car at the time of the collision, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of drink-driving and causing death by dangerous driving.

She was bailed to return to the police station in July, pending further enquiries.

Cheshire Constabulary is appealing for anyone with any information which could assist the collision investigation.

Police are keen to hear from anyone who may have seen the pedestrians walking along Eaton Road in the direction of Eaton village prior to the collision, or anyone who may have seen a green Nissan Micra prior to the crash.

If you can assist, contact Sgt Rachel Gallagher on the police national non-emergency number 101, quoting incident 48 of May 18.

Alternatively, call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
