FORMER Frodsham mayor Nigel Griffiths has forfeited the seat he held on the town council for 20 years after failing to attend enough meetings.

Mayor Dennis Taylor said Mr Griffiths had been officially informed he was 'no longer a member of Frodsham Town Council'.

Mr Griffiths, 47, remains a member of Vale Royal Borough Council.

He said his absence from town council meetings was due to 'personal circumstances'.

He said: 'I intend to stay on as a borough councillor and, if everything goes as well as expected, I will be putting myself forward for re-election to Frodsham Town Council next year.'

No-one sought to fill the vacated seat on the town council, which was advertised for co-option and which will now remain empty until the local election in May 2007.
