AN ASPIRING rock goddess from Little Sutton is preparing her assault on the charts.

Laura Critchley, who has taken the moniker Elsie, has spent the last 18 months recording and putting the final touches to her new album.

Elsie, who has toured as a backing singer for legend Tom Jones, will release the first single from the album The Assassin (Bang Bang) in January.

Elsie’s unique style has caught the eye of Adidas, who now endorse her and have earmarked several projects for her in 2012.

Elsie says: “I’m doing songs for people who listen to Rihanna or Lady GaGa, but love a bit of Kasabian or Arctic Monkeys too.

“You’ll want to dance to it in a nightclub and sing along at a festival.”

Produced by Jim Lowe, the man behind the Stereophonics’ sound, Elsie’s songs document sex, love, bitchy girls, occasional vulnerability and downright boozy bad behaviour.

She added: “It’s dead simple. You take great guitar hooks, thumping beats and chunky bass lines and combine them with lyrics loads of people can identify with.

“I want to be able to rock out but also dance to these songs in a club. A friend had introduced me to Jim (Lowe) and I told him the sound I had in my head was like The Strokes or Arctic Monkeys playing Blondie songs.”

Lyrically, Elsie drew on her own experiences to tell the story of a girl in search of bigger and better things in life.

“I wanted to talk about what it’s like being a girl or young woman in the world today.”

The Little Sutton songstress has already won plaudits from the press with a cover of Stereophonics’ hit Dakota, which is available for free download online at www.prandpromotion.com/Dakota.mp3.
