A DISABLED youngster has been given the gift of a new set of wheels by generous golfers in Helsby.

During their annual Chinese evening, members of Helsby Golf Club’s Powered Wheelchair Appeal presented the specialist chair to Jazmin Sutton from Ellesmere Port.

The music-mad eight-year-old, who attends Cambridge Road Primary School, was joined by her parents Joeline and John at the evening held at The Delamere Fortune Palace.

Members of Helsby Golf Club, who were named the Chronicle’s Champion of Champions at the Your Champions award ceremony last November, proudly presented their 294th powered wheelchair to the youngster, who enjoys singing in her school choir.

More than £1,000 was raised during the celebration toward the appeal, which has seen the club raise more than £1m since it donated its first powered wheelchair back in 1983.

Spokesperson for Helsby Golf Club Kathryn Hoather thanked everyone who attended the evening and made it such a success, saying: “More than £1,000 was raised on the evening and this included a very generous donation of £200 for the owner of the Fortune Palace, Pat Tang.

“Thanks go to all who attended, contributed and also to Pat Tang and her team at The Fortune Palace for their generous support and hospitality.”
